FUNK N’ SOUL WEEK - 20 MARCH

7 people (3 who stayed on for most of it)

Due to coronavirus social distancing becoming stricter, I had to host the club online. This was a big change and I didn’t have as much time to promote the club so not as many people knew. Additionally, as it was a very new concept at university, I didn’t have the same presence online to bring people along. Another thing that's really important to pay attention to when doing things online is when people are going to be using their phones. For this to work they have to give up time using their phone and I had unknowingly planned this club when Boris Johnson did an important announcement so people were going to be watching that. Also, this Friday was the last day to go to pubs and restaurants etc so they would have been doing that rather than listening to my club.

I had prepared some messages to display on the screen to prompt people to talk about the music they chose although I don't think they were very effective and there was practically no talking on the comments.

Instagram live has a number of glitches on it and pauses throughout while also ending after around 30 minutes. Another problem is it detects copyrighted material and then ends the live. If people don't know what's happening they will just think I ended it.

I didn’t really make the theme or my messages clear. I had thought that people would make the link between the poster and my message about suggested songs. However, some people just suggested their own favourite songs so there was a bit of miscommunication there.

A big difference in online work is everything needs to be very clear as I can't be there to explain it and show how laidback the whole thing is, engagement is also something that needs a lot more work to be boosted.
